Release agreement

Time on the water is genuinely good for you — but like any outdoor activity, it carries real risk. This page explains what those risks are and what you're agreeing to before you paddle with us.

This agreement affects your legal rights. By taking part in any Walking Trees Adventures activity, you are agreeing to waive certain rights, including some rights to claim compensation following an accident. Every participant — or a parent/guardian on behalf of a minor — must read and understand this page before joining a session.

What this covers

This agreement applies to every activity we run: Mangrove Forest Kayaking, Kayaking Experience, StandUp Paddling, Country Boat Tour, Semi Speed Boat, Speed Boat, Sandbar Visit, and the Sandbar Kayaking Expedition — along with transport to and from the jetty, use of our equipment (kayaks, paddleboards, boats, life jackets and related gear), and any briefing, instruction, or guiding provided as part of a session.

Before you paddle

A life jacket is compulsory for every participant on every activity, regardless of swimming ability. Our guides will fit and check this before you set out. Please tell your guide honestly about your swimming ability, any medical conditions, injuries, or if you are pregnant — this isn't a formality, it directly affects how we look after you on the water. Participants should not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs during any session. Cover any open cuts or wounds before entering the water, and wash your hands afterward.

The Sandbar Visit and Sandbar Kayaking Expedition travel out toward the point where the Ithikkara River meets the Arabian Sea — conditions there are more exposed and tidal than the sheltered mangrove and lake routes, and the Expedition specifically is only offered to experienced kayakers for this reason.

Risks you're accepting

Water-based activities carry inherent risks that no amount of care or equipment can fully remove. These include, but aren't limited to: capsizing or falling from a kayak, paddleboard, or boat; loss of balance getting in or out of a craft; collision with other boats, mangrove roots, or submerged obstacles; equipment failure; changing weather, wind, or tidal conditions, particularly on the routes that reach toward open water; encounters with wildlife naturally present in the mangrove and backwater ecosystem; and the general physical exertion of paddling, which can aggravate an existing injury or condition. By taking part, you accept these risks and the possibility of injury, and you agree that Walking Trees Adventures, its guides, and staff are not liable for injury, loss, or damage arising from participation, except where caused by our own established negligence under Indian law.

Personal belongings

Phones, cameras, jewellery, wallets, and similar valuables are your responsibility at all times. We're happy to advise on waterproof pouches, but we can't guarantee against loss or damage to personal items during a session — consider leaving anything irreplaceable back at your accommodation.

Photos and video

We sometimes photograph or film sessions for our own promotional and marketing use. By joining a session, you consent to appearing in this material. If you'd prefer not to be included, just let your guide know before you set out.

Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Kerala, India, and any dispute arising from it falls within the exclusive jurisdiction of the Courts of Kerala.
